Mumbai: Six foreigners arrested for peddling drugs worth Rs 4.2 lakhs

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) had conducted a special drive across the city and caught six foreign nationals for trafficking drugs worth Rs 4.2 lakh in total. The arrested accused are Nigerians and were arrested in three separate incidents.


The ANC officers had suspected that there might be an uptick in drug sales leading up to the Ganesh Chaturthi weekend. So, on August 13, the cops arranged for raids across the city. The first arrests were made by the Azad maidan unit in the wee hours of the morning.


At 3.10 am, the officers were on night patrol at Wadi Bundar bridge in Dongri – a drug peddling hotspot – where they arrested Matthew Okefor, 37, with 60 g of meow meow, worth Rs 1.2 lakh. Sources aid that there more suspects were present there, but they jumped onto the railway tracks and disappeared.


The next arrests were made by the Worli unit, between 10:25 am and 2 pm. The cops checked the men and found R1.8 lakh worth of cocaine on them. The cops arrested Okafore Ikwechiwkwu Igwedima, 29, with 16 g of cocaine, and Ugochukwu Uke Chritian, 43, with 14 g. But the most number of arrests were made by the Bandra unit, which caught three peddlers and recovered 60 g of meow meow (valued at R1.2 lakh) near Bandra Terminus.
