According to the Wadala TT police, on the evening of February 19, when Monorail RST-4 was moving from Wadala to Chembur, its side glass was hit by a stone and badly damaged at MHADA transit camp in Kokari Agar.
The incident came to light after Monorail Security Officer Arun Jadhav noticed it. Jadhav immediately lodged a case at the Wadala TT police station.
Police registered a case against an unknown person under Sections 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (Mischief) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3 (defacing property) of Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, a sub-inspector said.
A police team led by Senior Inspector Sushil Kamble inspected the damaged Monorail and made inquiries in the transit camp area.
“Investigations have revealed that about three school dropouts had thrown stones at the running Monorail with slingshots for fun. We have identified these kids and will soon take necessary legal action against them so that this incident is not repeated in future,” said Kamble.
Kamble added that police have also spoken to parents of the kids in the area asking them to keep strict vigil on them, as such acts amount to crime.
Sources said that the kids also damaged the Monorail office’s glass wall. The total damage was worth over R20,000, Monorail officials told police. The spot from where the kids were is not covered by CCTVs, but a security guard has seen the boys throwing stones at the Monorail, a police source said.
