No act of kindness is ever wasted. After a senior justice of Bombay High Court offered to pay the fees for a junior KG student, the school told the court yesterday that the full fee has been waived off and the toddler has also been given admission.

The 30-year-old mother of the kid, Rita Pannalal Kanojia had approached the court last week against Lokmanya Tilak Education Society School, Tilak Nagar, Chembur where she was planning to enrol her youngest child Kartik.

Initially the school charged Rs 30,000 from her but after much pleading, the government-aided school reduced it to Rs 10,500. Rita, who works as a domestic help said that she would to pay that in instalments. The school did not agree, after which advocate Prakash Wagh wrote a petition on her behalf and fought the case pro bono.
VM Kanade, the justice hearing her plight said in the court, “We will pay the money, you just take care of the education of your kids.”
Don’t trouble out of spite
Yesterday, the counsel representing the school informed the court the pleasant development but the bench of Justices VM Kanade and MS Sonak asked the school not to trouble the kids or parents out of spite. Rita was not present in the court, to which Wagh said that she is busy in the school finishing off the admission process.
The justice then converted her writ petition into public interest litigation and asked the Union Government, State and also the BMC to reply as to what they were doing to implement the Right of Children to free and Compulsory Education (RTE).
