The accused, identified as Amok Shamrao Manvar, 22, is a resident of Vashim in Amravati and studies at the Vikramsheela Polytechnical College. According to the MRA Marg police station, the owner of Hotel Residency on DN Road, Fort, had been receiving threat calls and messages, on a number the hotel had assigned on its website.
The caller demanded that the hotel owner deposit Rs 1 crore in a bank account within 15 days. He warned that a blast could take place, if his demand wasn’t met. “When the total calls amounted to 46, he approached us,” said a police officer. The police then registered an FIR.
The calls led the investigating officers to Manvar in Amravati, from where he was arrested. “He wanted to make quick money as he had taken loans,” said the police officer. The police also learnt that Manvar had made similar threat calls, to a Mumbai-based lawyer Rohit Shetty. A local court sent Manvar to judicial custody for two weeks.
