Mumbai: Online survey reaches out to commuters on auto-taxi services

Even as auto and taxi unions prepare to go on strike on August 29, the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat has launched a survey to help commuters voice their complaints regarding the different modes of taxis and autos plying in the city.

The data collected will then be submitted to the CM, the transport ministry, Bombay High Court and Competition Commission of India.

The online survey, which went live on Friday, will run till August 31. The MGP states that the survey hopes to address commuters' grouse with the taxi and auto services in the city.

"These strikes are coming in the wake of the Maharashtra government introducing the taxi scheme draft to regulate and control operations of Ola and Uber services. However, passengers of Mumbai are fed up with the arrogance of autos and kali-peeli drivers and their refusal to ply them," said Shirish Deshpande, chairman, MGP.

He added that the survey would help them gauge the quality of services provided by autorickshaws and various formats of taxis.

"Consumers never get a chance to voice their opinion and they don't go on protesting like these unions," said Deshpande.

In the survey (you can participate on www.mumbaigrahakpanchayat.org), MGP has asked commuter feedback on various issues like fare, surge pricing, affordability, behaviour of driver and safety.
