"It was based on archaic times when the number of ticketing windows were very few at every station," said a Railway official.
Now that the number of ticketing windows have rose drastically across railway stations, the commuters have the option to buy tickets and so officials said that now there is no reason for so much extension in daily card tickets.
Moreover, there are other options like ATVMs and mobile ticketing as well. The revised time is now six hours after which the return ticket would not be valid and, if caught, a fine can be levied.
