Mumbai: Neighbour rapes, sodomises minor; caught by girl's brother

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and sodomised by her 25-year-old neighbour in Kandivli (West). Cops said the survivor's brother, who suspected the neighbour's intentions, caught him red-handed in his house.

According to police officials, the incident took place on Saturday around 8 pm, when the girl was playing with her friends outside her house. The accused, offering a chocolate to the girl, picked her up and took her to his house. He then raped and sodomised the six-year-old.

Meanwhile, the girl’s brother reached home, and found his sister missing. He started searching around the colony but could not locate her. Police say that the brother doubted his neighbour as he had touched her inappropriately on previous occasions. He went to his neighbour’s house and found the accused with his sister. He nabbed his neighbour and handed him over to Kandivli police.

Senior Inspector Mahipati Pandhermise, from Kandivli police station, said, “We arrested the accused after the girl’s brother registered the complaint. The medical report has also confirmed sexual assault.” The accused has been arrested under Sections 376 (Rape), 377 (Unnatural offences) of Indian Penal Code and various sections under POCSO Act.
