The Dharavi police are in the eye of the storm for allegedly assaulting and detaining a journalist and cameraman for more than two hours late last night. According to sources, the incident is said to have taken place near Sion railway station, when journalist Indrajit Choubey and his cameraman Prashant Parab, were covering an accident. When the duo reached Sion station, they noticed a scuffle between police officers and locals. The duo immediately started recording the incident on camera, said an eyewitness.

However, moments later, two police vehicles reached the spot, and began using their lathis to disperse the crowd. The cops allegedly detained Choubey and Parab, and then allegedly beat them up at the station. Choubey said, "As there were hundreds of people at the accident site, we decided to record the incident to help the policemen identify the culprits and catch them. But, the police misunderstood us and took us to Dharavi police station. They snatched our phones and beat us up. One of the officers also threatened to register an FIR against us."

The matter was resolved following the intervention of Additional Commissioner of Police S Jaykumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police Virendra Mishra. When contacted, Jaykumar said, "Choubey and Parab were not beaten up by the cops, they were just detained. After going through the matter, we found that they were not involved, so we let them go."
