Tension ran high in many parts of Parel after a traffic constable, who was trying to stop a driver from going into a no-entry zone, was beaten up near Bharatmata junction around 9 pm.

The situation escalated and two groups began fighting. A two-wheeler was set ablaze near the Central Railway workshop in the area and at least seven people were injured (right) in the melee.
The police began gathering around 10.15 pm and Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria also went to the area to monitor the situation at 10.40 pm.
While tempers began cooling around 11 pm, the situation remained tense even at the time of going to press. The injured were rushed to KEM hospital.

The mob manhandled him and tried to snatch his camera. The mob also tried to attack our reporter Mayur Sachade, but he was saved by the police.
