Several city malls, commercial establishments and others have been given notices by the fire brigade for noncompliance of fire safety norms. An inspection was done over a period of two months and legal proceedings will now be started against some defaulters.

According to a statement issued by the fire brigade on Tuesday, the inspection of 507 buildings was undertaken over these two months. Of these, 308 were issued notices for deficiency, 73 for lack of compliance and 3 have been prosecuted. Besides, 11 malls were inspected in Bandra alone and have been issued notices for lack of fire safety measures. They now have a period of 60 days to comply, failing which they will be sent reminders and later prosecuted.
Another three have been prosecuted by the BMC's legal department for non compliance- Kenilworth Mall in Bandra (that saw a major fire two months ago), Pramukh Plaza on Andheri-Kurla road and Parekh Market in Opera house.
