Mumbai: Local train hits buffer at CST

In yet another case of ‘bad driving’ on rail tracks, a local train hit the buffer at CSTM station late last night. The incident occurred when a Siemens rake dashed the dead end on platform no. 5 during its shunting -- a process of parking the train which would then be used for running the first train.

The impact of the crash was such that the metal buffer and the graphic advertising board behind it got damaged. There were no injuries to anyone though.

Sources said that the auxiliary brakes are applied if trains are moving at above 10kmph after entering the platform, but if it is less than that and brakes are not applied, then it can dash. The CR authorities have set up an enquiry into the same.

A similar incident of a larger scale had occurred at Churchgate station earlier this year when the impact of the collision lifted the train by at least 10 metres above the rail tracks.
