Mumbai: Kalbadevi fire survivor gets second scare on the eve of her wedding

In the middle of her haldi ceremony yesterday, Priyanka Pol got a grim reminder of the tragedy that had befallen her family just three weeks ago when a minor fire broke out in the building where they have been given temporary accommodation.

The fire broke out at 7.15 pm in a flat on the 22nd floor of Standard Mill Compound at Prabhadevi, where the Pols have been staying on the 19th floor since their house in Gokul Niwas in Kalbadevi was gutted on May 9.

Sainath Pol (26), Priyanka’s brother, said, “The haldi ceremony was on when a lady shouted that there was a fire on the upper floor. My friends and I rushed to find the flat locked and smoke coming from it.

When we opened the door, we realised that a lit diya had fallen, causing a plastic mug and a table fan to catch fire. We pulled the diya out to the corridor and doused the fire.” “The memories of the Gokul Niwas fire still haunt us.

But, we managed to remain calm as we did not want the moment to be ruined,” he added. “It was a small fire and was doused soon. However, two fire engines were sent to the spot,” said a fire official.
