A day after the Bombay High Court stated that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cannot grant permissions to those pandals that are likely to hinder traffic and pedestrian movement, the BEST Undertaking has decided to ask mandals to submit no-objection certificates acquired from the police as well as the civic body for a power connection.

"The mandals have to submit documents 10 days prior to the festival," said a BEST official. They will also have to furnish details of previo-us years' electricity consu-mption.

The Ganesh festival, which kicks off on September 17 this year, will see participation from close to 10,000 organisers. Rampant power thefts last year have forced the body to apply stricter rules this year.

Nine different units will be available for all mandals at a cost of R4.5 per unit, along with specific rates for temporary connections.
