According to the Mulund police, rickshaw driver Bhagwan Appa Kengar, a resident of Mulund’s Hanuman Pada, returned home around 11.30 pm last Thursday and wanted to park his auto at his usual spot opposite Shivayi Rahivashi Mitra Mandal. However, he couldn’t do so, as the accused had parked his bike there.

“The bike belongs to Rakesh Rajput alias Mataru, a local. I asked him to take his bike aside so that I could park my auto as I regularly do. However, Rajput didn’t do so, hence I parked my auto right behind the bike and went home,” Kengar told the police in his statement.

Resisted attack
After some time, Rajput arrived at Kengar’s residence and asked him to come out of the house. When Kengar came to the spot where he had parked his auto, Rajput started verbally abusing him. A heated argument ensued and then Rajput pulled out a chopper from behind and attacked Kengar.

Police have invoked Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Rajput, who was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident. He later showed remorse and surrendered. His father has passed away and he lives with his mother. Rajput is a small-time estate agent and has no previous crime record, the police said.
