The Central Railway officials said the incident happened at around 8.30 pm when the ceiling and wall collapsed on two people who had just entered the office.
“This is an old ticket booking office under the foot over bridge on the Kurla end. Also, after the collapse, the Harbour line services resumed by 8.55pm,” said AK Singh, PRO, Central Railway.
Sources said that during the 72-hours megablock last weekend, rocks were being cut near the station and those vibrations could have weakened the walls of the structure. A case was registered at Sewri police station.
Doctors at JJ hospital said the two people were brought dead to the hospital.
Dr Tatyarao Lahane, dean, JJ Hospital told mid-day, “Both the individuals, a man and a woman were brought to the hospital after the incident. While the extent of injuries and what caused their death will only be confirmed after the post mortem, they both were pronounced dead on arrival,” said Lahane.
