Police inspector Nagin Kale and constable Kulkarni are among the accused. The arrested team, that is attached to the economic offences wing, reached Powai’s Ocean Spa early this week and blamed its owner Tarannum Khan for indulging in trafficking of women and flesh trade. Kale threatened to book Khan on the false charges and demanded money from her.

“Kale, a female officer, forcibly took Khan in her car to ask her for money and that’s why they were booked on the charges of kidnapping. Kale told Khan that she would come back on Wednesday to collect the money. Khan agreed to pay the accused and then registered a case with the Powai police station against them,” said a Powai police officer.

The police then laid a trap for the accused and as soon as they reached the spa to collect the money, they were arrested.

A police officer from the Powai police station said, “We have registered a case against Kale, two constables and two others in the matter under sections 452 (trespassing), 342 (wrongful confinement), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent to secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 395 (dacoity), 170 (impersonating as public servant) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).”

All the accused will be produced in court on Saturday. Joint commissioner of police Deven Bharti said, “We have arrested the accused and the Powai police are investigating the matter.”
