Mumbai: Negligence of a Thane police constable made the crime branch of Mumbai police literally search every corner of Mantralaya, the state secretariat here, over the last few days.

"On August 7, a constable attached to Thane police forgot a pouch of 26 bullets in a toilet at Mantralaya," said DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

Lagnath Naik, the constable, forgot the pouch while leaving, and realised it only after reaching Thane.

Next day he informed Marine Drive police here about the pouch left in the toilet. However, the pouch was nowhere to be found as the Marine Drive police and crime branch officers searched all over the Mantralaya.

On August 10, a sweeper finally found the pouch with bullets inside buried under garbage in the Mantralya premises. Thane police have initiated a departmental inquiry for negligence against Naik.
