On May 16, we had highlighted issues of poor garbage disposal, overgrown trees and pedestrian-unfriendly footpaths in this tourist hub. Residents complain that little has changed in the interim. Separate bins for dry and wet waste are still missing, and segregated garbage is piled into one dumpster in most areas.
Overgrown trees were supposed to be trimmed before the monsoon. But, residents say, the BMC is yet to get cracking.
Pavements are still a hazard. Hawkers have taken up most footpaths — case in point, Colaba Causeway — paver blocks are missing at many spots, and filth trails on pavements and streets. Road barriers are missing on footpaths, and wires continue to perilously dangle from electric poles.

NGOs have been tasked with door-to-door garbage collection and undergo regular refresher training on this. We are taking precautionary measures to control spread of mosquito-borne diseases by cleaning breeding sites.
Makarand Narvekar Colaba
All areas have garbage bins, but often, inconsiderate people litter their surroundings without so much as a thought. We are also constructing public toilets so that tourists in the ward are not inconvenienced.
Ganesh Sanap Churchgate
We are yet to receive waste segregation bins from the municipal corporation. A tender for it has been floated. We plan to reconstruct the stretch from A road to F road in Churchgate.

Based on complaints of hawkers encroaching on pavements and blocking roads, we have conducted several raids. We even cut the branches of overgrown trees prior to the monsoon.
