“Her condition is stable,” said KEM Dean Dr Avinash Supe after rumours of Aruna’s health detoriating made it to social networking sites.
Shanbaug, a former nurse at KEM hospital who was brutally raped by a ward boy on November 27, 1973, has been in a vegetative state since the incident. In 2013 too, she was diagnosed with pneumonia.
In 2010, activist-journalist Pinky Virani submitted a plea to end Shanbaug’s life through euthanasia. It was turned down after the hospital staff protested the move.
Neelam Gore, Shiv Sena spokesperson, who had visited Shanbaug on Saturday said: “She is well taken care of. I have suggested that a logbook be kept outside the Dean's office for people to be able to write their views and suggestions.
Please do not believe in rumours. I suggest that the hospital should also issue a bulletin so that such rumours don’t surface”.
