Mumbai: Nine members of a cooperative housing society in neighbouring Vasai town, where a Muslim family was allegedly denied a flat, were arrested this morning and subsequently released on bail.
The accused were produced in the local magistrate's court and later granted bail, a police officer of Manikpur Police Station in Vasai said. They were booked under section 295 (A) (hurting the religious sentiments) of the IPC, the officer said.
One of the existing members of the Happy Jeevan Co-operative Society in Vasai (West) wanted to sell his flat to a Muslim family, but other society members allegedly passed a resolution opposing it, and denied him the no-objection certificate for the sale.
The prospective buyer had submitted a written complaint to the local police on September 11, following which an FIR was filed against 11 members of the housing society.
