“The body was immediately despatched to the veterinary hospital in the park. A team of experts performed the autopsy on Thursday afternoon,” Rajendra Pawar, range forest officer (RFO) said.
Ruling out the possibility of a foul play, SGNP Veterinary Officer Dr Shailesh Pethe said though the final report was yet to arrive, prima facia cause of death appears to be ribcage fracture.
Speaking to mid-day, an SGNP officer said, “It is difficult to ascertain the exact cause of death. But there are chances that the cub might have participated in a hunt with its mother, during which it got kicked by a spotted deer or a wild boar.”
