After the announcement that Lower Parel will be developed on priority basis under the Centre's 'Smart City' programme, details are now emerging of many more goodies for Mumbaikars who work or live in this area.

A Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) is being proposed on all the five railway stations within one-kilometer radius of Lower Parel such as Mahalaxmi, Parel, Elphinstone, Curry Road.
Besides this the other goodies include eight new roads that are to be developed to help connectivity, free wi-fi for initial 30 minutes at 4G speed, 100% vehicle tracking system to implement zero garbage management.
The BMC will be developing Lower Parel by offering services such as 24 hours water supply over the next 24 years, installing LED lights, having Public Information System in place, mobile governance. Under this project, the BMC will also hold meetings with the citizens of Lower Parel and address their issues. The proposal on the same will be tabled in front of the standing committee members on Thursday.
The civic body will also survey the opinion of the citizens on smart city across all the 24 wards. Around 500 people from each ward will be asked several questions on what they want their smart city to have -- from basic amenities to the developed ones. A compiled report of public requirements will be submitted to the civic authorities and is the3 process to get them in place is expected to start by this month end.
OTHER ISSUES IN FRONT OF THE STANDING COMMITTEES:
1. The proposal to appoint a peer review consultant for the ambitious coastal road project will now be put forth in front of the standing committee on Wednesday. The total cost of the review is more than Rs 2 crore and will help in reviewing the originally submitted Detailed Project Report of the 33.5 km road stretching from Nariman Point to Kandivali
2. The civic body has proposed that playgrounds of municipal schools be allowed to be used for weddings when the schools are not in session, for e.g., during Diwali and Christmas holidays. The proposal will be discussed in the education committee meeting this week.
