After the BJP held a public meeting against its own government over the announcement of an amendment in the Maharashtra Rent Control Act, former south Mumbai MP Milind Deora has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to disown the statement made by the housing minister over the amendment and also called the housing ministry 'ministry of dis-housing' under Prakash Mehta.

Deora, who had earlier also spoken on the issue and informed mid-day that he had appraised both Congress vice-president Rahul as well as party president Sonia Gandhi on the issue, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister on Monday.
In his letter, he has alleged that by hiking the rents of residential units measuring 847 sq ft and commercial units above 550 sq ft, the Maharashtra government is helping some landlords and property owners.
He has also threatened to carry out an agitation against the government if if it doesn't take back the announcement within a week.
