JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Saturday called for the dismissal of Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran for his alleged involvement in a Rs 700 crore telecom scam
Adderessing a news conference in New Delhi, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav called for Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to dismiss Maran.
"Dayanidhi Maran's case is absolutely crystal clear. The Prime Minister must remove him from the Cabinet of Ministers immediately. The company that he has blackmailed is also a witness," Yadav said, adding, "That's why there was a lot of commotion in the Parliament when the government said that they had enforced stringent measures to fight corruption."
He further said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in its second term in office has only contributed to unemployment, scams and inflation.
Maran is the third leader of UPA's ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) who is under scrutiny after lawmaker MK Kanimozhi and former Union Telecom Minister A Raja were arrested over the 2G telecom spectrum allocation scam.
Earlier, on Monday, Maran had denied charges of forcing the founder of telecom company Aircel, C Sivasankaran, to sell stakes in his company.
Sivasankaran had claimed that he was forced to sell stakes in his company's application on June 26, 2006, which was later rejected by Maran.
Maran had the portfolio of the Telecom Ministry between 2004 and 2007.
The telecom corruption scandal is considered the biggest of several graft cases that emerged in the second term of the Prime Minister.
