Trying to fool the police is risky business, something two Worli Village residents found out the hard way yesterday. Ramashankar Jaglal Saroj (23) was caught by an alert constable at the Kalina police training camp when he showed up for the physical test for the ongoing constable recruitment on behalf of his neighbour Nitin Shivaji Kute (22 ).

Besides being tried, Saroj, a commerce graduate who is studying for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission exams will be disqualified from appearing for that, or any other government exam. While matching the copy of the form he had with the one Saroj had when he showed up for the physical test, a Vakola police constable found several irregularities.

The photographs on the form, meant to be Kute’s, were different; both forms had different stamps; and even the Aadhaar card that Saroj produced was different from the original. The constable then took Saroj to the Vakola police station. Saroj confessed that he and Kute had hatched a plan to let Saroj give the test on Kute’s behalf so that he would pass.

Vinayak Mule, senior police inspector from Vakola Police station, said, “The accused Ramashankar Jaglal Saroj is a commerce graduate and a resident of Worli Village. He had come to appear for the physical test on behalf of his neighbour Nitin Shivaji Kute. We have made both the youth accused in the case because the crime was planned.”

Mulay said the accused have been booked under various sections of the IPC including 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy). While Saroj has been arrested, the police are trying to locate Kute and arrest him.
