A 29-year-old man allegedly killed himself in his Mira Road flat yesterday, two months after he lost his overseas job and went into depression. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan and a case has been registered with the Kashimira police station.

The deceased has been identified as Lokesh Vinodkumar Mehta, who stayed at the Lodha Aqua Cooperative Housing Society on the Western Express Highway. Mehta completed his MBA course from The Netherlands two years ago. He had consequently secured employment in the country and worked there for a year.

However, he was fired from his job two months ago, after which he returned to Mumbai. “He was depressed after he lost his job with a private company there. Late in the night on Monday, he was alone,” said an officer from the Kashimira police station.

His parents stay in Bangalore and his mother was with him on Monday but went back to Bangalore to be with his father. Since that night, Lokesh had stopped answering his phone. Worried, his parents came to the city on Wednesday morning and found the door locked from inside.

On entering, they saw his body hanging from the ceiling fan. In his suicide note, Lokesh wrote: “I am committing suicide because I lost my job in Holland. Nobody is responsible for my death. I’m the only one responsible for my death.”

Senior PI Anil Kadam said, “Lokesh was a brilliant student and completed his MBA in Holland two years back. After this, he got a job there but was fired. His family told us he was depressed and mentally disturbed due to this.” He was being treated at the Bhakti Vedant hospital in Mira Road, added Kadam.

Mehta’s family had bought the flat in which Lokesh was residing. “We have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in this case. We haven’t found anything suspicious. His body has been sent for post-mortem,” added the police officer.
