Pichhad's appointment comes in the wake of Patil taking over as state home minister last month.
Narendra Verma was appointed to the post at a meeting in Mumbai yesterday afternoon.

Verma replaces Sachin Ahir, who has joined the government as a minister of state, said a party office-bearer.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and party chief Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar.
