In order to keep a tab on the heavy vehicles that enter the state, the Mahrashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has a plan to upgrade the existing border check posts in the state by the use of Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) system. MSRDC would upgrade the some important border check post and officials feel that the new system will help in transparency and curbing corruption apart from maintaining vehicle’s data that has entered and exited from the state limits.

Confirming the same an MSRDC official said, “It is very important to keep a track of the heavy goods vehicles that enter the state of Maharashtra and so we had earlier only started the procedure to upgrade the border check posts in the state. Now we would be doing construction and modernization of some border check posts in the state and we would make them high-tech. This would help is in maintaining an accurate date of the heavy vehicles and goods carrier that come and go out of Maharashtra.”
It should be noted that MSRDC has invited the tenders from the consultants for the construction, modernisation and computerisation of some border check posts out of 22 Integrated Border Check Posts in the state on the Build, Operate & Transfer Basis (BOT) model.
The border chexck post would become high-tech because of the same and the cameras installed at the post would capture image of a vehicle and its registration number as displayed on its number plate. The high tech system at the post would also electronically scan the registration and other documents of the vehicle. The screen installed would help in giving details about the goods in vehicles that would pass through the post and it would identify contents that are not permitted entry.
At present the issue at many of the border check post is that of electricity as some times there is no electricity and so in the high-tech border check post there would be power back up which will be available at all times. The date base of the goods based on its category will be able to be maintained because of the same.
At all the check posts there would also be facilities for the people who drive the heavy and multi-axel vehicles which includes Rest House , Off shift recreation space , general store , garage , petrol and diesel pumps, medical shops, dispensary ,dormitories , canteens etc.
“The main objective of the project is also to stream line the transportation activities, coordinate and monitor the various activities related to check post and this would help us in increase the revenue for the state government.” Said another MSRDC official
It should be noted that in the year 2013, the then Chief Minister of Maharsahtra Prithviraj Chavan had inaugurated the first modernized border check post at Dapcheri on National Highway 8 at Maharashtra-Gujrat border.
