MMRDA invites interested parties to run BKC Urban Plaza

With the commercial hub of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) slowly accommodating residential spaces and more people and tourists thronging the area even on weekends, the MMRDA gears up to throw open the Urban Plaza. The ground-plus-five structure will include a super market, shops and restaurants. On Friday, the planning authority invited interested parties to run and manage the plaza for 10 years.

The construction of the Urban Plaza is almost complete. It aims to cater to the needs of those working in the area and tourists. At present, due to the lack of stores, BKC does not have enough facilities to cater to people after office hours. That’s where, hopes the MMRDA, the concept of the Urban Plaza will prove to be useful.

The body had prepared a detailed plan for the G and G-N Block at the BKC and the Urban Plaza has emerged as part of the same plan.

MMRDA Joint Project Director, Dilip Kawatkar, told SUNDAY MiD DAY, "We decided to construct the Urban Plaza because there were no proper places at the BKC where people could shop and eat, especially on holidays. After the Urban Plaza comes up, people who stay in residential apartments at BKC will not have to go far to shop. On holidays, when most of the offices are closed, people, especially tourists, will not have a problem finding places to eat and hang out. We have invited EOI and expect a positive response from the public.”

The Urban Plaza building has come up on a 1,630 sq mt plot near Asian Heart Institute at BKC.
