Thane: Thane police have suspended the licences of nine liquor bars in the city on charges of not having fire safety measures in place, police said.

The suspension was done following a request made by TMC Chief Fire Officer Ajit Mandke after audit of these bars which were found to be violating the fire safety measures, Thane Police Commissioner Vijay Kamble said in his order, as per a release issued by police late last night.

The police chief also stated in the order that the action was being taken as per the sections of Maharashtra Police Act and Rules for licencing and controlling places of public amusements (other than cinemas), 1960.

Incidentally, police had in the recent past conducted raids in some of these bars and arrested customers and owners on several charges and rescued minor girls from there.
