Law colleges could help in shaping good judges: Justice Oka

Thane: Justice A S Oka of Bombay High Court has called upon the law colleges to teach the students how to become good judges, in addition to being good lawyers.

Stressing the need for more judges in the country's courts, he said law colleges could help in shaping them up.

Justice Oka was speaking at the inauguration of the late Prabhkar M Hegde lecture here recently organised jointly by Vidhi Foundation, an local organisation of lawyers, and the TMC Law College.

He also discussed the credibility of the judiciary and the crisis being faced by it during the present times. The judiciary's credibility depends on various factors, including selection of judges, infrastructure and priorities given to the litigations, he said.

He also expressed the need for improvement of the infrastructure and facilities provided to the judges in lower courts.

Justice Oka said that each and every member of the society should get speedy justice and there should be no distinction between the litigants.

Several eminent lawyers were presented at the event where four senior advocates from Thane were presented the lifetime achievement award for their contribution towards the legal profession and society.
