A 16-year-old rape survivor is still trying to get herself on the road to recovery, but the KEM Hospital and the Mumbai Police would rather indulge in a petty blame game.

The girl was allegedly abducted and raped by her sister's 27-year-old friend and his 28-year-old aide at a lodge in Nalasopara on July 9 and later confined to a house in Andheri for four days before being released by her captors. The alleged rapists were arrested on July 23.

According to the police, the girl's medical examination was conducted twice at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, which confirmed rape. But her family was dissatisfied with the way the test was carried out and approached an NGO. The NGO then took the girl to KEM Hospital, which examined the girl for sexual assault and asked the police to collect the report — which corroborated Bhabha Hospital's findings.

Allegations lobbed
But this test apparently caused much heartburn among the Kherwadi police. They accused the KEM Hospital of bypassing their authority and not following due procedure before conducting the test. A doctor from KEM hospital said Sujata Patil, senior PI, visited the hospital on Thursday but refused to collect the evidence and the medical test report.

"We asked the police to take the report to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina for further administrative procedure. But instead of appreciating the efforts taken by our doctors, the police abused the staff for performing the test without consulting or informing them."
