Around 60 employees questioned and residences of all trustees raided

Income Tax (I-T) officials yesterday morning raided Lilavati hospital in connection with suspected financial irregularities.

IT sleuths swooped over 25 different sections of the hospital, including residences of all the trustees of the Lilavati Trust. The raids began around 7 am. Around 60 employees were questioned on the hospital premises.

Lilavati Hospital was raided by the Income Tax officials in connection with suspected financial irregularities.

Documents related to Information Technology, accounts, purchase, stocks, reception and billing departments have been seized for scrutiny. Mobile phones of the trustees were also impounded for investigations.

Subsequently, software experts collated available data to present a watertight case before the prosecution.

Income Tax officials carried out parallel raids on Mayfair Realtors and Vesta Infrastructures located in Byculla, who loaned Rs 14 crore to the Lilavati Trust in 2002.

The raids come five days after the Supreme Court issued notices to various government agencies following filing of a petition seeking investigation into alleged money laundering by the trustees of Lilavati Hospital.

Acting on the petition, which alleged that the trustees were involved in money laundering through the accounts of the hospital and sought criminal proceedings in the case, the apex court had issued notices to the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED), SEBI and the Centre on April 6.

Residences of trustees Chetan Mehta, Bhaven Mehta, Rashmi Mehta, Pramod Mehta, Prashant Mehta, Rajeev Mehta, Kishore Mehta, Charu Mehta (Tardeo), Niket Mehta (Bandra), Dushyant Mehta (Juhu), Nanik Rupani (Thane), K C Shah (Prabhadevi), Vijay Choraria (Bandra) and Rekhaben Sheth (Colaba) were raided.
