Naina Chowdhary (32) resided with her husband Sunil, their 14-year-old daughter and one-year-old son, at Heera Nagar in Mulund.
She ran a beauty parlour while Sunil owns a motor training school in the same area.
The police said Naina had taken a loan to start the parlour, but her business was unprofitable and this led to frequent fights between the couple.
The police officials said Sunil had gone to drop children to school on Saturday morning, while Naina stayed at home.
Frustrated with the constant arguments, Naina hanged herself with her dupatta from the ceiling.
When Sunil returned home he found his wife’s body hanging from the ceiling and informed the police.
Foul play
Naina’s family members were called from Satara. Based on allegations made by them against Sunil’s family, the authorities took Sunil into custody while his family members are still at large.
The Mulund police have booked Sunil under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) and Section 498 (dowry) of the IPC.
Naina’s brother Surender said his sister was not the type who would give up so easily. He also said her in-laws had been harassing her every day.
Naina’s family members suspect foul play in the case and have asked the police to investigate the matter thoroughly. u00a0
