They believe that Chintan is not the kind of guy who could be involved in something like this. Artist Bose Krishnamachari feels their marriage was like any other, with its ups and downs, and says he stands by him.
Jitish Kallat and a few of their friends met the police commissioner to convince him about Chintan’s innocence
Krishnamachari, the founder member and president of the Kochi Biennale Foundation and Biennale Director of international exhibition of contemporary art, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, who knew the couple since the 90s when they came to Mumbai from Baroda, said, “They were the most interesting couple back then. I am told people were jealous of their relationship in Baroda. They both became successful in their own right. Chintan is a very intelligent guy. Unfortunately, he gets into some controversy or the other. They were cordial with each other and might have been looking for an out of court settlement.”
A source close to the couple said that Hema and Chintan were indeed considering an out of court settlement. In fact, Hema is said to have spoken to a close artist friend, that she wanted a few of them to meet after about two months to help Chintan and her sort out things.
Bose also insisted some of the reports on the ugly divorce battle splashed in the media were not true. He said, “Chintan had come to me in a very disturbed state of mind. You know that bit about Hema complaining about obscene figures on the wall of the house was also a bit of a surprise then, because we know that all of Chintan’s works even earlier had pornographic clips or some such kind of stuff. You know how lawyers perceive things differently.”
“Hema was a strong person, not easy to convince her about something once she made up her mind. Which marriage doesn’t have its ups and downs? So did theirs too. We stand by Chintan,” he said.
Artists Jitish Kallat and his wife Reena Saini were also close friends of the couple. According to sources, Jitish and a few other artist friends approached Police Commissioner Ahmad Javed on Monday to try and convince him about Chintan’s innocence in the case.
