Come summer 2015, you will be able to indulge in adventure sports at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park
For those who rue the lack of adventure sports in the city, there’s heartening news. If all goes to plan, they will be able to go for rock climbing, water sports and other such adventure activities in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivli, by the summer of next year.

The proposal for these activities, which had been in the pipeline for the past two years, has finally received an approval from State Forest Department.
A senior official from SGNP told Sunday mid-day, “The SGNP planned to have adventure sports within the park in 2012.
The proposal was sent to the authorities for final approval and it has now been cleared. If everything goes according to plan, we will begin implementing the work, and by summer next year, those interested in rock climbing will be able to experience the thrill.”
The new adventure sports activities will be restricted to the tourism zone within the park limit. As per the plan that was prepared for the introduction of adventure sports, the rappelling and rope sports will come up near the Kanheri Caves.
The authorities also plan to start water sports at the abandoned quarries in Manpada area.
