Not Mumbaikars, who will treat this day like any other

It's a common belief to beware of Friday the 13th, but most Mumbaikars are not particularly worried that today is one such day.

Agreed a racing follower, who wished to remain anonymous. "The concept of luck plays a huge part in the sport.

However, even if the racing season in Mumbai began on Friday the 13th, it would not affect officials, punters or superstitious owners."

However, he does not expect fewer people to dine at his restaurant because of the date.

Nevil Cimbadia, partner at the dining place Bonobo in Bandra, said, "Tonight is just another Friday night for people here. I don't know if people even register the date until you tell them."

The Luck Factor

There is no one theory behind the belief that Friday the 13th is unlucky. The most widely accepted theory is the massacre of the Templars on October 13, 1308, a Friday.

Another is that there were 13 diners at Jesus Christ's Last Supper and Christ was crucified on a Friday, but this theory probably originated only in medieval times.
