Here’s good news for residents of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai who get stuck in traffic while navigating the narrow road between Palaspe and Kalamboli, with the MSRDC planning to widen this crucial 4-km road at a cost of Rs 37 crore. The narrow road causes huge traffic snarls during peak hours and it sometimes takes 30-45 minutes to pass the 3-km stretch. This is an important road as it takes motorists towards the old Mumbai-Pune Highway and towards the Mumbai–Goa highway.
Confirming the development, an MSRDC official said, “The present 3.7-km stretch between Palaspe and Kalamboli is narrow and as it is an arterial road. This narrow stretch causes a lot of inconvenience to motorists.”
As part of the plan, there will also be an underpass that will be constructed near Khanda Colony signal in Old Panvel between Palaspe and Kalamboli. The underpass will be designed for vehicles as well as pedestrians.
The MSRDC has now invited tenders for both projects. Once the bids are submitted and the work order is issued, the projects will take 18 months to complete. Both locals and motorists passing through had been demanding a wider road and an underpass for a long time now.
