The Marine Drive police have arrested four people from Punjab and Gujarat after the German Consulate at Nariman Point lodged a complaint with them mentioning that the youths had submitted fake documents, along with their application forms, seeking work visas for Germany. The cops are trying to find out whether other people are involved in providing them the documents.
Fake info spotted
According to sources, while scrutinising a bunch of documents, the authorities came across the four applications, which had some fake information. "The documents submitted by them - school certificates, income tax returns and bank statements - were forged. On realising that something was wrong with the papers, the authorities approached us," said an officer at Marine Drive police station. Another officer said, "Teams were sent to Punjab and Gujarat, from where they were arrested. The accused have been identified as Gurujar Singh Balvir Singh Jat, 27, Mantardir Avtar Singh, 21, Ranjitsingh Gurupal Singh, 20, and Naman Prabhudas Patel, 42.
A bigger racket?
"As the accused hail from two different places, we are trying to find out whether it's a bigger racket. We are investigating the case from that angle." Police sources said all four have been booked under sections 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document as genuine), 474 (possession of forged document of public register), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
