Mumbai: The Grade II workers of the Forest Department (FD) went on a state-wide strike starting from the wee hours of Monday morning.

The Principal Secretary Forest, Pravin Pardesi told mid day that the work will not get affected as the talks with the worker's union are on. But the official from the union affiliated with the work said that they have stopped the work because despite having several meeting the salary issue is not sorted yet.

Speaking to mid day the Principal Secretary said, "The talks with the workers to sort out the issue are in progress and not all the workers have gone for strike. The demand of the Grade II workers is that their salary should be at par with the salary of Grade two workers working at the Revenue Department. The file regarding the same has been sent to the finance department and the demand is under consideration."

A worker affiliated to the union of Grade II FD workers said, "We have been fighting for our demands from more than 10 years now but still it has not been fulfilled. We are working as FD guards but our salary is equivalent to a peon working in the Revenue Department."

Many FD workers protested in front of the Thane Forest Department office.
