The second fire of the day broke out at 5.15 pm on Tuesday in a bamboo warehouse on SV Road in Andheri. Though no lives were lost in the incident and no injuries were reported, the blaze damaged a couple of neighbouring shops. According to sources, six fire engines and six water tankers were pressed into service to douse the flames.
Officials said that as the incident happened close to the railway tracks, commuters complained about the smoke. However, railway services remained unaffected. The incident also led to heavy traffic jam on the arterial SV Road, which anyway witnesses bumper-to-bumper traffic during peak hours.
Speaking to mid-day, a fire officer said, "The fire has been brought under control. Apart from the fire engines and water tankers, five ambulances were rushed to the spot as a precautionary measure."
