Outgoing Maharashtra DGP Pravin Dixit was on Sunday given grand farewell by the police department. A farewell dinner for was also organised by the IPS association on July 31.

He was succeeded by senior IPS officer Satish Mathur.


Satish Mathur is a graduate of 1981 IPS batch and was appointed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as the next Director General of Police of Maharashtra.

Among the earliest and first IPS officer to be trained by the National Security Guard, Mathur had a crucial stint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and also with Air India.

During his assignment with the CBI, Mathur was part of the team which prosecuted the 193 accused in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

He helped develop an online system that allowed the court to access the prosecution's say and all the details of the accused with just a click of the mouse.

Mathur was also the first occupant of a new post, DGP-Legal and Technical, which was created to improve the conviction rate in Maharashtra.

He also held the post of Pune Commissioner of Police from March 2015 for about a year.

During his tenure in ACB, some high profile cases, including the multi-crore rupee irrigation department scams, came up.
