Anyone seeking to know just how dangerous unbridled ambition and cut-throat competition can be, need look no further. Twenty-nine-year old Sandip Balwant Patil, a Kandivli-based doctor hung himself from the fan on Friday, because his dream to become the best doctor in the world wasn’t coming true, and because of a failed love affair.

He was discovered hanging from the fan and was rushed to the Apex Hospital in Borivli, where he works part-time, and he passed away there late last night. Doctors had kept him on a ventilator in the ICU, but could not save him.

“In his suicide note, Patil wrote that he was a very hard- working person, but he never got the success he deserved. He aspired to work in Mumbai’s top hospitals and become the best doctor in the world. This was his big dream. He also wrote that he loved a girl, but that she had dumped him. He said his love was true. We have registered an accidental death report in the case, and are investigating the matter,” said a Charkop police official.

A person working with him in the hospital said, “Patil always looked tense in the past few months and he had also taken to consuming alcohol. Even on Friday, when he attempted suicide, he was drunk when he locked himself in the room.”
