Acting on his wife's complaint, the Nirmal Nagar police on Saturday, arrested Dr Narendra Nanaware (33), his mother Janabai and brother Sanjay, on the charges of dowry harassment. Besides, the cops are now on the lookout for Narendra's father Sopan, who is still at large.

According to the police officials, Shilpa Nanaware (22), in her complaint, has accused her husband and in-laws of torturing her and demanding Rs 2 lakh from her father as dowry.

Accusing the Nanawares of torturing his daughter, Ramesh Dambere said, "It was an arranged marriage. At the time of the wedding, the Nanawares demanded a huge amount from us. Keeping in mind my daughter's future, I somehow managed to meet their demands. However, after just 20 days of the wedding, they started harassing my daughter for money as Narendra wanted to open a clinic. However, with my small cobbler shop, it was beyond my capacity to once again arrange for such a huge sum."

"I had already given Shilpa gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh and household goods worth Rs 8 lakh. I want the cops to teach them a thorough lesson," added Dambere.

"Nanaware, his mother and brother were arrested on Saturday on the charges of mental harassment and molestation. They were produced in the court and were remanded to police custody. We'll be producing them in court on Monday as well, seeking their custodial extension," said Senior Inspector Prashant Bagade of Nirmal Nagar police station.
