If anybody has taken the Bollywood flick Dhoom too seriously, then it's these two Chinese nationals, who have been arrested for stealing a piece of diamond from an exhibition in Goregaon. They were about to board a flight to Osaka late on Monday, when the Vanrai police arrested them.

According to police, the incident took place at the India International Jewellery Show – 2017 (IIJS), which was being held at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre at Goregaon East. Around 5.30 pm on Monday, officers of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) received a complaint from the supervisors of the event that a piece of diamond had been stolen from one of the stalls and it was replaced by a fake.

Following this, the Goregaon police and CISF officers started scanning the CCTV footages of the event, in which two Chinese nationals, identified as Jiang Changqing and Deng Xiaobo, were spotted lifting the diamond. As the officers suspected that the duo would try to leave the country, they immediately passed on the information to the airport immigration department.

A police officer said, "Immediately after getting the information, the CISF team of the Mumbai airport swung into action. The immigration officials checked their records and said that the duo had already cleared the process. They were traced to the boarding lobby and taken back to the immigration department. After the event supervisors filed a complaint in the matter, a case was registered against the duo."

Speaking to mid-day, Vinay Rathod, DCP, zone 12, said, "While scanning the CCTV footages, we spotted the Chinese nationals picking up the diamond. Then we launched a manhunt and arrested them."
