Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday took on the opponents of demonetisation head on and slammed them for criticising the government, stating that the Centre or state government couldn’t help if their (opposition’s) black money was stuck because of the decision.

Hope for compensation?
He was reacting to the opposition’s demand that the people — especially farmers — be given compensation of Rs 8,000 crore for the losses they have suffered since November 8 due to demonetisation.

“The government will surely think of how to compensate the farmers, but it cannot do much about the losses these people (opposition) may have suffered. The government doesn’t have that much money to pay them (black money hoarders),” he told a press conference on the eve of the Winter Session of the state legislature on Sunday.

However, he did admit that people were facing issues while seeking money from the banks even now. “Adequate measures have been taken and the government is still working on easing solutions to the problems the people and farmers are facing,” he said.

Cartoonish references
Fadnavis went on that the opposition was being immature by not seeking solutions through healthy debates in the house.

“They used language that I may not use to describe them,” he said while referring to the opposition’s charge that the government was like Doraemon and the people were like Nobita, both protagonists in the popular cartoon series, adding, “Har jagah ful khila hai, isliye opposition ka Mowgli huwa hai (since the flower of lotus — BJP’s election symbol — has blossomed everywhere, the opposition has turned into Mowgli).

The Maratha factor
The CM also addressed the Maratha reservation issue in the wake of the community’s proposed march in Nagpur during the session.

“We expect opposition to discuss the issue. We are also ready with some solutions to the issue,” he said.
