Demolition drive rolls onto Linking Road

After demolishing the illegal front portions of prominent Pali Hill eateries, the H-West ward of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) continued its demolition drive and pulled down several illegal encroachments in Bandra and Khar Danda areas.

Illegal front portions of popular restaurants such as The Fatty Bao, Bru World Café and Monkey Bar were razed. Several illegal shops on Bandra’s popular Linking Road were also demolished. Smaller shops were also torn down, which led to a lot of scrap on the road. Shop owners claimed that they were not given any prior notice. About 70 shanties were demolished in Khar Danda.

The H-west ward office removed eight illegal stalls, five unauthorized boards and 10 encroachments on open spaces. The illegal front portions of the three restaurants were broken down along with the steps to Vijay Sales, which were on the footpath. Besides this, 50 hawkers were also removed. The ward office had put in place one JCB, two dumpers, one lorry and one encroachment van for the drive.

Ankit Harsora, the manager of Vijay Sales, said that they were not given any prior notice.

A spokesperson for The Fatty Bao said, “The BMC team pulled down the retractable awning, which is in front of the restaurant. Our teams are working to ascertain the matter.” Civic officials from the H-west ward
office called this a routine action that may continue next week.
