Thane witnessed two unrelated cases of suicide yesterday. A Delhi-based businessman committed suicide in a hotel at Thane, leaving a suicide note saying that he was taking the step as he had a huge debt to repay
In another case, a 63-year-old woman also took her life. No suicide note has been recovered. In the first case, the deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Radheshyam Rajpal. Rajpal was a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi. He shot himself with a pistol in the hotel.

“When the waiters went to knock on the door, he did not answer. They broke open the door and found Rajpal in a pool of blood, and a pistol near him. The waiters had gone to check as Rajpal was scheduled to check out of his room yesterday,” said Chandrakant Thorat, senior inspector of Thane Nagar police station. The hotel where the suicide took place lies just outside the Thane station. Rajpal is a dealer in mobile accessories in Delhi and had come to the city on January 8.
“We will check where he got the pistol from and whether it was licensed or not,” said Thorat. In the second case, Kavaljit Hardeep Singh (63) jumped from her 17th floor residence in the Sky Garden Residential Complex on Ghodbunder Road in Thane. The police said the woman was suffering from diabetes and was frustrated with her prolonged illness.
“We haven’t found any suicide note at Singh’s residence, but her family members told us that she was fed up with her illness. She recently went for a check-up where it was discovered that her sugar levels had risen and the doctors had advised her to control it,” said D R Pawar, senior inspector of Kasarvadavali police station. Singh’s husband had also recently suffered a heart attack the police said.
