Vipin Thapar (40), the owner of Udaan builders and developers, was arrested yesterday evening and will be produced in court today. Kandhari committed suicide on Monday by shooting himself with a revolver. He was declared dead on Tuesday. When cops were searching his house, they found a three-page note in his bedroom, but it didn't blame anyone.
On Wednesday, after Kandhari's last rites were conducted, his family allowed the Sanpada police to search his office in Sector 17, Vashi. During the search on Thursday, cops broke open a cupboard drawer and found a note.
Single-page note
"We found a single-page note, which clearly mentions Vipin Thapar's name. We have reliable evidence against Thapar on the basis of which we arrested him on Friday evening for abetment of suicide. We can't reveal the details from the suicide note, as they are confidential. We have not yet found any other name in the suicide note," said Prashant Khaire, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Vashi.
Thapar was called for interrogation yesterday afternoon and was arrested at 6.30 pm. A senior inspector from Sanpada police station said, "The suicide note was written in Hindi and had a signature in the end clearly blaming Thapar for the suicide. It clearly states that Thapar was harassing him over some financial transaction. Thapar was one of Kandhari's partners till 2013. Later, he moved out and started his own firm, Udaan. Thapar first gained Kandhari's trust and later took his workers and also, his cash."
