Rumi Jaffery’s brother Aman was trying to take his wife’s dead body to Bhopal without a death certificate
The Bangur Nagar police are investigating the suspicious death of the sister-in-law of Bollywood writer, director Rumi Jaffrey, after Cooper Hospital officials informed them.

The police said Nikhat’s husband, Aman was taking the body to her native place, Bhopal, when officials of the Railways’ packing department at Byculla asked for a death certificate and a police NOC. Aman was not in possession of either of the documents. The railway officials then sent the body to Cooper Hospital.
Found unconscious
Police said the 40-year-old deceased was a doctor with an airline company. She was found unconscious by Aman on Thursday night at their flat in Dheeraj Residency in Goregaon. Aman rushed Nikhat to a private hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.
Aman informed the police that Nikhat had blood pressure problems.
Aman had married Nikhat eight years ago. She is from Bhopal and had been staying in Mumbai since her wedding.
No suicide note
The police have registered a case of accidental death, as they did not find a suicide note. However, a police official said the body had turned blue and her tongue was hanging out.
The police have informed Nikhat’s family in Bhopal and are waiting for them to hand over her body after the postmortem.
“We are waiting for the postmortem reports after which we will question the deceased’s husband and Rumi Jaffery about the case,” said a police officer from the Bangur Nagar police station.
